Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains is Western State Colorado University, a liberal arts institution offering a huge educational experience in a small town. It’s home to nearly 3,000 students in more than 70 majors and academic programs, including unique offerings in petroleum geology, exercise science, and environment and sustainability.
Western had long emphasized its location, and rightfully so: the area offers invaluable opportunities as a giant outdoor classroom. However, our challenge was to expand the university’s message to effectively convey the full range of its strengths. The result was a strategy and story that rested on three pillars: community, experience, and value.
By linking all the university’s messages to these areas, communications now speak to Western’s offerings more compellingly — highlighting academics and affordability alongside the merits of its surroundings. The full “Go Western” campaign defines the institution clearly, which will better attract the right students to an incredible campus at 7,700 feet.
